UPAAGC IS A 501(c)3 ORGANIZATION IN THE STATE OF ILLINOIS
PROJECTS

UPAAGC’s projects reflect our commitment to service, education, culture, and community—both in Illinois and in support of the University of the Philippines. Since 1971, our initiatives have evolved, but our purpose remains the same: to give back, connect, and create impact.

Education & Scholarships

Education has always been at the heart of UPAAGC’s work. Over the years, we have:

  • Established scholarship funds for deserving UP students
  • Endowed professorial chairs and supported academic programs
  • Donated to colleges and institutes across the UP system, including Economics, Mathematics, Nursing, and Allied Medical Professions
  • Supported libraries, research, and student organizations

These efforts have provided opportunities for students and strengthened academic excellence within the University.

Fundraising & Institutional Support

UPAAGC leads and supports fundraising initiatives that directly benefit UP and its programs. Signature efforts include:

  • Annual Golf Outings and fundraising events
  • Dinner-dances, concerts, and special performances
  • Campaigns such as centennial fundraising and modernization efforts
  • Partnerships with UP foundations and alumni networks

Through these initiatives, UPAAGC has contributed significant financial support to UP programs and infrastructure over the decades.

Community Service & Outreach

Service extends beyond UP. UPAAGC actively engages in community-focused projects, including:

  • Disaster relief efforts in the Philippines (typhoons, volcanic eruptions, and other crises)
  • Donations of medical supplies, PPE, and essential goods
  • Support for healthcare frontliners and underserved communities
  • Environmental initiatives such as beach clean-ups
  • Volunteer work with organizations like Feed My Starving Children

In recent years, UPAAGC has also supported international and local causes, demonstrating its commitment to humanitarian service.

Cultural & Educational Programs

UPAAGC celebrates Filipino heritage and promotes cultural awareness through:

  • Philippine Cultural Nights, concerts, and choral performances
  • Theater productions, exhibits, and literary forums
  • Symposia on education, healthcare, and community issues
  • Collaborations with universities, cultural institutions, and the Philippine Consulate

These programs strengthen cultural identity and build bridges within the broader community.

Health, Professional & Civic Initiatives

UPAAGC has organized programs that support professional growth and civic engagement, such as:

  • Healthcare symposia and continuing education programs
  • Financial literacy and entrepreneurship workshops
  • Community forums on housing, policy, and social issues
  • Leadership training and governance workshops

These initiatives empower members and the community with knowledge, skills, and opportunities.

Signature Events & Ongoing Programs

Several initiatives have become defining traditions of UPAAGC:

  • Annual Golf Fundraiser
  • Family Picnics and Fellowship Events
  • 5K Walk/Run for Education
  • Piyesta Pinoy participation and membership drives
  • Christmas Dinner-Dance & Fundraiser

These events foster camaraderie while sustaining the organization’s mission.

Partnerships & Community Engagement

UPAAGC works closely with:

  • The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago
  • Filipino-American organizations and community groups
  • Academic and cultural institutions
  • National and international UP alumni networks

These partnerships expand the reach and impact of UPAAGC’s programs.

Continuing Impact

From its early initiatives—such as scholarship funds and cultural programs in the 1970s—to recent efforts in disaster relief, education funding, and community service, UPAAGC continues to evolve in response to the needs of the times.

Our projects are guided by a simple principle:
to use what we have in the service of others.
